This package consists of walking tours through the countryside and the white villages of the Lecrín Valley, the area around Nigüelas and the fertile valleys of the Alpujarra. A visit to the Alhambra, the Generalife and Granada city is also included.

We have tried to put together a package with a wide variety of walking tours. The program can be adjusted to your wishes, we will gladly help you.

If you want to enjoy the beuaty of the area to the maximum, you need a (rental) car. You can rent a cheep car on the airport, see travel info

 

day-to-day program (example)

  1. Arrival at Malaga airport or Granada airport and drive to Casa Espalanda. You might have time left to explore our village, have a drink (with free tapas) on one of the bars' terraces or on our own roof terrace. You can also make a walk through the olive orchards of Nigüelas. In the weekends the 16th century olive press museum in Nigüelas is opened, which we highly recommend visiting. 
  2. This morning you might want to sleep late, maybe do some grocery shopping and have a coffee somewhere. As a warming up walk a roundtrip from Nigüelas to Acequias through olive and almond orchards and a pine tree forest. From Acequias you walk back to Nigüelas through fruit orchards 
    (5 km/1,5 hours/150 m. climb and descend)
    In the afternoon you drive to the beautiful area of Monachil, near Granada. You walk alongside old irrigation channels, over hanging bridges through steep rockformations , alongside a river to the "Vega", a grassland between mountains. After a challenging climb up, you descend to the starting point of the walk (7 km/2,5 hours, or 3 to 3,5 hours for the prolonged route).
  3. Today you walk a part of the GR7-route, through the almond, orange and lemon orchards of the green Lecrín Valley. Your walk starts in Nigüelas and goes via the white villages of Murchas, Melegis, Restábal and Salares to Albuñuelas (18 km/4,5 hours.). At around 5 PM we will pick you up by car. See links for a description of the GR7-route and the villages of the Lecrín Valley.
  4. You drive to Pampaneira in the Alpujarras, where you will make a roundwalk along the mountain hills and the valley of the RíoBubion Poqueira via Bubión and Capileira. The 3 villages of the beautiful Poqueira Valley each have their own character and are considered the most beautiful villages of the Alpujarras. (8 km/3,5 hours/600 m. climb and descend (2 times))
    If you still have time and the energy, you can also make a beautiful roundwalk from Pitres along the old Moorish villages Mecinilla and Fondales (8 km/3 hours/300 m. climb and descend).
  5. Today you will drive (or take the bus) to Granada for a visit to the Alhambra.hangbrug bij Monachil Do make an early start to beat the crowds at the ticket office entrance. You will visit the gardens of the Generalife and the Alhambra, including all the palaces. (when there are only afternoon tickets available, the program for the day can be turned around). You can stay in the Alhambra for as long as you like, and after the visit of the palaces, you can walk into the city centre for lunch. After lunch you can make a city walk, see the sights and/or visit some tapas bars. 
    (Because of the early reservation of the entry tickets, the visit to the Alhambra is a fixed day in the program. If you do not wish to visit the Alhambra, please let us know when you book with us, the tickets will be deducted from the package price.)
  6. Today you make a beautiful drive through the pine forests and the mountains of the nature park Sierra de Almijara,  combined with a challenging walk along the moutainsides to Río Verde, where you can paddle and picknick (8 km/4 hours). After the walk you drive to the beachtowns of Almuñecar and/or Salobreña. Here you can take a refreshing dive into sea and have a delicious grilled fish on the beach. You can also make the climb up to the Moorish fortress of Salobreña.
  7. Today a part of the GR-7 heading toLanjarón is on the program. It is a wide path along the mountainside to Lanjarón. Over here you can take a look around in this Alpujarras-town and have something to eat or drink. (15 km/4 hours/200 m. climb and 400 m. descend). At around 5 PM we will pick you up by car. 
  8. Departure from Casa Espalanda and drive to Malaga or Granada airport.

Altering/ Changing of the program:
The program is flexible and can be filled in to your own wishes (for example more short or more longer walks), we will gladly help you with this. Because you have a rental car you can also see more of the surrounding areas, walk in different areas or have a lazy day at the beach. It is also sometimes nessecary to change the program because of wheather conditions.

Food and Drink:
Besides breakfast we can also offer you a lunch packet for during your walk and also a couple of nights per week dinner (see accommodation for more information).

Other:

bulletThe program can be changed when this is nessecary due to wheather conditions (for example snowfall or very hot wheather).
bulletThe level of the walks: the day walks vary from light to medium/heavy and are feasible for people with a good condition and some walking experience. The walks go through hilly to mountainous terrain over usually well passable paths, sometimes with loose stones. 
bulletWalking time: these are average times, resting time and breaks are not included.
bulletSome walks are not suitable for people with fear of heights.
bulletSeasons: you can walk all year round. In the summer (July/August) it can be very hot in the afternoon (40 °C), it is better to make an early start at 8 AM when it is still 20 °C, and walk until 2 PM.
In spring and Autumn it is usually good wheather for walking. During the winter it is also good for walking, although it is a little colder and sometimes it rains. Walking in the wintersun is very nice, temperatures range from  0 to 15 °C in the shadow.
bulletBecause of early reservation of the Alhambra tickets, the visit to the Alhambra is fixed in the program. If you do not wish to visit the Alhambra please let us know when you book with us. The entrance price will be deducted from your package price.
bulletWe strongly advise you to bring the following:
bulletfleece/sweater and windblocker jacket (also in the summer!), in the mountains the wheather can turn around very suddenly.
bulletsturdy good walking shoes/boots with a good profile sole

bulleta change of clothes during your walk
bulletsufficient food and water during your walk ( not always obtainable during the walk)
bullethat, sunglasses and sunscreen (Nigüelas is 1000 meter high, the sun is very strong and comparable with a skiing holiday)
